Family of Origin Seminar

Next Session Begins: September 11, 2025

The Family of Origin Seminar offers participants the chance to apply Bowen Family Systems Theory to their own family, clinical work, or professional context. Through coaching and guided observation, participants explore emotional patterns in their family of origin. Designed for those familiar with Bowen’s eight core concepts, the seminar deepens understanding through experiential learning.

This two hour monthly meeting will meet on the second Thursday of each month from 3:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. CST. The first half hour of the meeting will be a discussion of the assigned readings for that month. The text will be Family Therapy in Clinical Practice, Dr. Murray Bowen.

Two participants will present their family diagrams to Lisa Moss, LCSW and CFC faculty member, for consultation each meeting. The focus of the consultation will be to identify and understand the 8 concepts of Bowen Family Systems Theory and how they function together to create the emotional process of the family unit.

This seminar will be limited to six participants. Each participant will present his/her family diagram for consultation three times. Interested individuals should contact Ms. Moss to set up a phone interview.

The CFC registration system is supported by Eventbrite.com, a secure online system for purchasing tickets for a program. Your credit card is processed by Eventbrite on CFC’s behalf, and you will receive a confirmation with their logo as well as CFC’s.

Important note about credit card payments: If you have ever purchased a ticket for another event from Eventbrite, your email address and credit card information may already be in their system. You need to make sure you use the same card that is associated with your email address, and it must not be expired. If you do not update your account on Eventbrite.com before you register, you will be unable to complete the payment step at the end, which will be frustrating to you. If you are certain that you have never purchased tickets, then your purchase of a ticket for this program will be accepted and charged to your credit card account. Add Eventbrite to your email contacts to avoid CFC program emails going to spam.

Participation will require video conferencing capabilities through zoom.us. You can download a free version of the software. A computer, tablet, or smartphone with microphone and video camera are required. Prior to each session, participants will receive a meeting ID# and instruction for logging on.
